San Antonio, Texas  – The National Log A Load For Kids Advisory Group honored Buddy, Shavender and his family of Pantego, North Carolina as the recipients of its Third Annual Log A Load For Kids Volunteer Champion Award at Log A Load For Kid’s National Conference, November 16 in San Antonio.  This award recognizes the recipient’s outstanding accomplishments on behalf of his or her state Log A Load For Kids program.

Buddy and his family are owners of the Shavender Trucking Company, with a fleet of 100 “lavender” trucks and 136 employees.  Since 1992, the Shavender family have been involved in the North Carolina Log A Load For Kids program, helping to raise over $750,000 for the University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina’s Children’s Hospital.

Buddy served as state Chairman for North Carolina’s Log A Load For Kids Program for a total of five years.  Buddy and his family helped lead the North Carolina Log A Load Program to raise the most money of all participating states for two years and almost $3,000,000 to date for children’s hospitals in North Carolina.

Buddy has been instrumental in the tremendous success of the North Carolina Log A Load For Kids program by promoting the program at every level from his own employees and business associates in the industry, to his friends in the community and the state.  He was responsible for the governor of North Carolina proclaiming the first week of March each year as Log A Load For Kids Week.

National Log A Load For Kids Advisory Group Chair Debby Blomberg presented Buddy and his family with a plaque and award check, compliments of Timberjack Corporation, the Log A Load For Kids National Conference and Award sponsor.  When Buddy and his family received the award check, Buddy immediately signed the check and handed it over to the North Carolina Log A Load For Kids program.  “Buddy and his family have shown great leadership with North Carolina’s Log A Load For Kids program, and they certainly promote the Children’s Miracle Network goal of “Helping Hospitals Help Kids,” stated Debby Blomberg.

Log a Load For Kids is an annual campaign, which encourages loggers and others in the forest products community to donate the value of one load of logs or any amount to local Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.  Log A Load For Kids is one of CMN’s leading National sponsors in terms of donations to its children’s hospitals.
