LOG-A-LOAD FOR KIDS

Children's Miracle Network
Log-A-Load for Kids is a nationwide giving campaign through which loggers, other members of the wood products industry and individuals contribute the value of a load of logs or any amount desired. These contributions go to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals located in regions within North Carolina. (Please see the state map for the regions and their hospital). The hospitals in each region, along with volunteers, plan and coordinate fund raising events. 100% of all money raised goes to the hospitals. Event expenses are covered by sponsoring organizations and industry groups. In North Carolina, there are four Children’s hospitals.
The history of Log-A-Load goes back to 1988. A small group of loggers in South Carolina decided they wanted to raise some money for a local children’s hospital. They used the value of a load of logs as their benchmark. From that humble beginning, Log-A-Load has come a long way. Today the program is active in 30 states and boast over 13,000 participants, raising over $11 million. North Carolina has consistently been a leader for money raised for children.
Raising money is not an easy task. However, through the dedication and hard work of regional volunteers, the task has been made much easier. Without the enthusiasm of these volunteers, the program would have never gotten off the ground. These individuals receive no money, but the satisfaction they receive from these “miracles” is reward enough.
If you have questions about this wonderful program, please contact a volunteer in your region. Please review this site for names of volunteers for each region. There is also an event calendar with dates for upcoming events.

LOG-A-LOAD NEWS
SHAVER ELECTED TO STATE LOG-A-LOAD COMMITTEE Mr. Richard (JIMBO) Shaver was elected to the Log-A-Load for Kids state committee during their July 29 meeting in Raleigh. Jimbo is the President of Shaver Wood Products in Cleveland, NC. He has been active with Log-A-Load for several years. In 2003, he held an equipment auction at his mill. The auction raised over $100,000 for Log-a-Load for Kids and helped North Carolina to rank first in the nation for funds raised. We welcome his presence on the board.
The committee also discussed the feasibility of
having a state wide fund raiser in 2005. It has been suggested that the
event should be a golf and/or skeet shoot.
North Carolina: Number 1 in the Nation For the year 2003, North Carolina led the nation in money raised for Log-A-Load for Kids. Over $385,000 was raised for this worthy cause. This was all made possible because of the efforts of the many wonderful volunteers throughout the state. LOG-A-LOAD for Kids Auction brings over $100,000 to Children The Log-A-Load for Kids equipment auction to benefit Children’s Miracle Network at Shaver Wood Products in Cleveland, NC last month was a huge success. This week, a check in the amount of $105,503.75 was presented to Page Stroup of the Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC. The event was sponsored by the forest product industry, though its host, Jimbo Shaver, contributed over $60,000 in equipment for the auction. More money will be raised for the CMN through ticket sales for a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup donated by Ford for the children. The CMN/Log-A-Load for Kids Program is in its 15th year and continues to raise much needed funds to benefit kids served by Children’s Miracle Network hospitals around the country. Donations for Log-A-Load include Sawmill, forestry, land clearing, and farm equipment. All proceeds of the auction equipment benefit Children’s Miracle Network. Log-A-Load for Kids was formed in 1988 by a small group of South Carolina loggers. Today, the Log-A-Load for Kids’ program boasts an estimated 13,000 participants in the logging and forest products industry across the United States with Log-A-Load programs in 30 states. Since, 1988, this program has raised nearly $10.8 million nationwide for CMN hospitals.
