Chain Saw Safety

Ensure that chain saws are equipped with proper functioning chain brakes.

Never cut with the tip of the saw blade - can cause the bar to kick suddenly up and back.

Always engage chain brake before carrying the chain saw.

Never "drop start" a chain saw. Either place the saw on the ground and start it gripping the handle and pressing down on the saw, or putting the toe of your boot through the handle and pressing down as you pull.  Or start the saw by placing the rear handle of the saw between your legs just above the knees, gripping the front handle with your left hand, arm locked and pull starter rope with your right hand.

Always grip the saw with both hands and use thumb wrap while sawing.
